Thrifted Thursday | Why Thrift?

Hello readers! So, every week I talk about awesome things to thrift & some thrifting tips. But this week I wanted to talk about why I thrift – & why I think you should too!

Save your monie$. Okay, so that’s a pretty obvious one. But you can save so much money from buying second hand! You might be thinking – “yeah, but I can buy really cheap stuff at Forever21 too.” Nothing against F21 shoppers, but clothing from there really tends to fall apart fast. Plus, you’re likely to run into someone else wearing the same thing! Which brings me to my next point:

Be original! I love the creativity that comes with thrifting. Turning a grampa’s shirt into a stylish dress is awesome, and you’ll be sure to be the only one with that outfit!

Be eco-friendly. You know, reduce, reuse, recycle! Why not do something so good for your wallet & for the earth?

Support local businesses. I don’t know about you, but I would much rather support a community store, instead of a big corporation (especially one that might use slave labor). Get out in your community & make some friends! Small, locally-owned thrift stores often have the best stuff!

So those are the basics of why I love thrifting. Why do you thrift?

See you next week!

Laurel | Portland Senior Portraits | Allegra Villella

I have not blogged in WAY too long. So here goes: This is the lovely miss Laurel. She was way too fun to photograph. Seriously LOVED her style and her love for photography. She had thoroughly “stalked” my photos, and knew exactly what kind of shots she wanted. It was so perfect that we just happened upon this red VW bug – so cute! Check out some of her shots & leave her some love in the comments!

Thanks for the fun shoot, Laurel! And thank you to Jessica Belknap for doing the makeup!!

Thrifted Thursday (On Friday)

Okay, so it’s not actually Thursday, but I didn’t want anyone to miss out on their weekly dose of Thrifting! I thought this week I’d talk about one of my favorite areas to thrift in: Hawthorne. I’ll go into more depth about each store in another post, but here are the basics:

SE Hawthorne is one of the BEST places to go thrifting in Portland. There’s probably a thrift shop on every block (if not more)! These are my current must-visits if I go:

House of Vintage:

House of Vintage (HOV) is usually my first stop on Hawthorne. I could spend hours there. 13000 square feet of vintage clothing, accessories, furniture and decor? Yes please! You can find anything from vintage cameras to wedding dresses. The price range varies since there are tons of different vendors, but generally I’ve found some great deals there. I would definitely recommend HOV for anyone looking for a legit-ly vintage outfit, or some amazing decor.

Red Light:

There are a few other Red Lights in Portland, but the one on Hawthorne is my favorite. They specialize in vintage and vintage-inspired clothing (so not necessarily everything will be vintage here). There are plenty of floral skirts and 80s t-shirts to go around. They also have an awesome collection of shoes. Red Light is a bit more expensive, especially compared to a Salvation Army – type store. However, they do carefully select their clothing, so you’re much more likely to find something “in” at Red Light.

GoodWill:

The Goodwill on Hawthorne JUST opened up this summer. The prices are great but the selection is not the best. It seemed like a lot of clothing for the older crowd. But finding clothes that aren’t necessarily “in” and turning them into something awesome is partly why I love thrifting so much. I would definitely still stop by next time you’re on Hawthorne.

Anyway, I probably do full reviews on each of these & more shops coming soon! What are your favorite places to shop?

Until next week!

Bradi Wells - Haha, I would spend a week in Portland, even if the only thing I did was check out shops. ;)

LOVE these snaps.
